August 25 2000, a false press release was distributed over the  Internet Wire allegedly coming from Emulex, a California based supplier of Fiber Channel host bus adapters.  The release stated that the company was under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company?s CEO was resigning and that the company was revisiting its recent earnings report to show a loss instead of a profit.  The company stock fell from $110 per share to less the $43 per share in less then one hour.  Emulex responded with real press release that all was in fact fine with the company and manage to recover, the stock didn?t return to the pre-hoax level.
