Example: Nemours and KidsHealth.org
What a great business strategy: turning competitors into clients!
Nemours is one of the nation’s largest children’s health systems, caring for approximately one quarter of a million children during one million encounters in 2004. It owns and operates the Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware, and major children’s specialty centers in Delaware, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and many primary care pediatric practices throughout Delaware. Nemours’ focus on improving the health of children, drives its many ongoing research, education and prevention programs. And from this wealth of information, The Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media created the award-winning KidsHealth.org web site. This is the largest and most visited site providing doctor-approved health information targetied to parents, kids and teens. TMA Guild believes KidsHealth.org is a great example of taking a business asset (in this case, a wealth of child health information) and re-purposing it. Nemours created a separate business enterprise by creating private-labeled online children's health information for licensed use by hospitals and corporations. Thus, shifting Nemours “competitors” into KidsHealth.org “clients.” |
